As a tutor, I use a structured literacy, Orton-Gillingham approach to reading & spelling instruction. This method of learning is designed specifically for students who have difficulty with reading, writing, and spelling.

This approach has several components:

  • Systematic – starting from simple and building to complex
  • Cumulative – with strong emphasis on mastery
  • Explicit – direct teaching with clear, guided instructions
  • Diagnostic – placement assessments to determine a starting point; monitoring with ongoing data to track progress
  • Sequential – phonics skills taught through carefully designed scope and sequence

During each 60 minute lesson, your child will work on reading and spelling skills in a cohesive and intentional way and will leave each lesson with clear home practice guidelines to continue skill development between sessions. Your child will meet with me 1-2 times per week depending on what works best for your schedule and family. Your student will come to me for our sessions which are held near Lapham Elementary on Madison’s Near East Side.

Your child’s education and well-being are incredibly important to me; they are the reason I believe so deeply in what I do. I’d love to talk more to see if I can be a good fit for your child and how we can partner together to help them succeed.
